Jonno Garver was awarded 3rd place in the collegiate division of the University of Louisville Guitar Festival this September. Jonno studied with Dr. McGrath last year at Oklahoma City University and is a former student of Matt Denman at OCU, and Olga Amelkina-Vera at Collin College.
Audrey Oden receives 2nd place at the Eastern Music Guitar Festival. Go Audrey!
Jonno Garver and Alfredo Vasquez made the semi-final round at the Classical Minds Competition in summer of 2017, in Houston, TX (in a tough field of very experienced competitors this year). Well done!
April Seals, Marin Ly, Alfredo Vasquez, and Jonno Garver took part in the Lone Star Guitar Festival and Competition.
2017 New Mexico All-State Concert Master goes to Jack D.!
Jack is a high school junior at Albuquerque Academy and has been Dr. McGrath's private student for 3 years (now studying via Skype).
This makes 6 years in a row that Dr. McGrath's students have earned first in the state, with Leah H. in that position last year, and Audra Vigil for the 4 years prior.
New Mexico was the first State to formalize All-State guitar, and the level of students is impressive. Over 100 students perform by blind audition with the hope they will be selected.
